Wiping out Diana: Earl Spencer releases Althorp estate film WITHOUT Diana’s memorial site

Featuring a classical sound track, aerial shots show the Grade 1 stately home and herds of deer running through the trees. The video is intended to attract more visitors to Diana’s childhood home in Northamptonshire. But her resting place is conspicuous by its absence.

Last year a spokesman for the estate said that after 18 years her grave had become “part of the ancient landscape over time” and swathed in flowers and foliage.

Amid criticism the memorial site looked unkempt, Charles Spencer’s PR people said vegetation in the area “had always had a full growth of mature trees, which give a rich panoply of foliage in the summer”, adding the natural growth of greenery “intentionally lends privacy to the Princess’s final resting place”.
