Hospital staff reported toxic Chlorine Dioxide coming from a disused water treatment unit, in a room close to the stroke rehabilitation ward.

Fire chiefs have ruled out an evacuation of the building.

Three people were taken to accident and emergency as a precaution, including one worker who was overcome by fumes.

No one was seriously hurt, however.

Emergency services from across Tayside were called to the scene, including a chemical specialists crew from Dundee.

Two firefighters in protective gas suits entered the gas room and removed the unit.

Station manager Craig Thomson said samples of air in the surrounding wards was taken and found to be safe.

“There was no need for an evacuation,” he said.
