A man shot dead in the driveway of his south-west Sydney home on Tuesday morning was a key suspect in the shooting of underworld standover man Walid ‘Wally’ Ahmad and a separate love triangle killing.

Emergency services were called to Sturt Avenue in Georges Hall just after 9.20am on Tuesday after a neighbour reported seeing a man lying in his driveway.

A man believed to be in his twenties, has been shot dead in Georges Hall, south west Sydney this morning.

Hamad Assaad, 29, was shot multiple times as he left home, including once to his head.

Paramedics worked on him for at least half an hour but he died at the scene.

A black sports car was then seen fleeing the area with two gunmen in the back seats.

Family members congregated at the scene on Tuesday afternoon and angrily demanded to see his body.

Mr Assaad’s distraught grandmother said in Arabic to police officers: „Why don’t you let us go in? The won’t let me see my son’s son. He hasn’t done anything at all. Go catch the drug dealers, gun dealers, they are killing people.”

Fairfax Media can reveal Mr Assaad was believed to be involved in the daylight shooting of convicted killer Wally Ahmad at the Bankstown Central shopping centre on April 29.

CCTV footage of the Bankstown shooting showed a hooded man walking up to Ahmad and shooting him at point-blank range as he sat at a cafe.

No one has been arrested over that shooting.

It was believed to be done in retaliation for a shooting outside a Condell Park panel beater two weeks earlier that killed Safwan Charbaji.

Mr Assaad had also beaten a drive-by murder charge in 2010 relating to a love triangle.

He was found not guilty of shooting Mohamad Alahmad, 37, six times as he sat in his BMW in the driveway of his South Granville home.

Police had alleged that Mr Alahmad’s ex-wife was in a relationship with crime boss Nasser Kalache however she had started talking to Mr Alahmad about a possible reconciliation.

Police had alleged Mr Kalache ordered Mr Assaad and another man to kill Mr Alahmad. Mr Assaad was found not guilty in November 2010, two years after the shooting.

On Tuesday morning, police were looking for the black car, possible an Audi sedan, seen speeding away from the scene of the latest shooting.

„Two people got out of that vehicle armed with firearms and shot a person who was well known to us,” Detective Chief Inspector Grant Taylor, from the Homicide Squad, said on Tuesday afternoon.

Police believe the two gunmen and getaway driver had watched their victim as he left home that morning.

They observed Mr Assaad move one car out of his driveway and then ambushed him as he walked back up the driveway to get in another car.

His mother was inside at the time and was „hysterical,” Mr Taylor said.

Police have called for anyone who saw a black car loitering in the Georges Hall area or speeding away after the shooting to come forward.

„The motivation behind this murder is not really known and it would be not the right thing to do for us to speculate exactly why he was killed,” Mr Taylor said.

An unnamed witness told 2GB that he heard up to ten gunshots coming from the house.

„Then I ran out the front of this property and a car came speeding away from the scene,” he said.

Sonya Aleksandrova was getting in her car to take her daughter to an appointment when she heard a succession of loud bangs.

„My daughter said to me, ‘mum gunshots’ but I thought it was machinery,” she said.

„It sounded like a quick succession… like an automatic.”

Her daughter said she heard six to seven gunshots.

„I was about to go in mum’s car and I heard boom boom boom…” she said.”I was like, ‘mummy mummy shut everything please hide, shut the doors, shut the windows’.”

Neighbours said the man moved into the home about six months ago with a wife and young children.
